Print Finishing Services & Solutions
In addition to design, print innovation, sustainability, and development we also offer a range of print finishing services for your products and/or project.
Varnishing & Coating
This is something we do inline while applying our vegetable-based inks to the sheet.
Varnishes and coatings apply a finish to the printed sheet, the different options are endless, gloss, matt, silk, neutral, pearlescent, and even luxury velvet touch.
They do more than enhance a product, they can protect from handling or even moisture.
Creasing
Creasing a sheet is essential when using heavy stocks, it allows the items on the sheet to be folded with less risk of bursting. When the sheet is folded at the crease, all the outward force that normally would split or crack the sheet is directed inwards towards the weak line created by the crease. As the fold continues over, a rounded bead is formed on the inside of the fold, absorbing all the force, while the outside of the folded piece remains smooth and unbroken.
Die-Cutting
Die-cutting is used when creating intricate shapes, curves and pockets. It’s a process where paper, card or board are die-cut into a specific shape using a die, for example a custom printed packaging item. Die-cutting is often used. Our flatbed cutting and creasing machines are also capable of creasing, perforating, embossing, and debossing.
Embossing
Embossing is when you press into paper or card from underneath using a metal plate containing a design to create a 3D raised effect
Debossing
Debossing, on the other hand, is when the imprinted design causes depressions in the material leaving a depressed (debossed) imprint of the image on the paper or card stock.
Perforating
Perforating refers to a series of small punctures/slots to reduce the tear strength of the material so that it can be pulled apart easily. Labels and tickets are a good example when perforations are used allowing one or more section to be separated easily and precisely.
Guillotine
Guillotines produce straight cuts.
Our guillotine has a flow line enabling us to trim sheets at speed.
Lamination
A thin film which is available in gloss, matt or super soft touch effect, is applied to the printed sheet.
The lamination can add protection from scratches, and moisture. It also enhances the saturation of the ink.
We advise to use our recyclable version of lamination (Enviro-lam) which is made from refined wood pulp which is biodegradable under appropriate conditions
UV Varnishing
A UV varnish is a clear polymer coating that is cured by passing under UV lights, which rapidly hardens the varnish. It can create a vibrant gloss, silk, matt effect.
It can also be applied to a specific area on a sheet which is called spot UV and is often used to emphasise a particular area.
Foiling
Also known as foiling stamping that involves a coloured or metallic foil and a metal dye.
The metal dye has will have your image etched into it, the dye is heated then under pressure, applied to the sheet. When the three items all come together, the image on the dye is transferred to the area on the sheet and bonds.
Gluing
Adhesives play a crucial role by providing a reliable and cost-effective way to seal and bond various types of packaging, mailers, and envelope materials.
Adhesives ensure packaging remains intact during transportation and storage, a long with enhancing the visual appearance and functionality of packaging.
Adhesives have many uses, and a vast range are available, hot melt, water-based, and pressure sensitive, along with many more. The adhesive is not the first decision, its always the substrate, what you want adhering together. Different adhesives work better with different substrates.
